METHOD
How Ruck.it makes a recommendation
The useful output is a decision with visible assumptions—not a readiness score. Ruck.it separates what a source reports from what the app estimates and what remains unknown.
Route candidates
Route data may come from OpenStreetMap or a small Ruck.it fixture set. Distance and elevation are labeled measured or estimated; current access, closures, weather, traffic, and footing remain unknown unless a current source says otherwise. Verify local conditions before starting.
Training progression
A session has four independent stressors: load, distance, pace, and terrain. The planner changes one primary stressor while keeping the others stable where possible. A check-in can recommend continuing, repeating, reducing, substituting, or seeking professional input.
Safety boundary
Sharp or escalating pain, numbness, weakness, dizziness, confusion, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath, or signs of heat illness are stop signals. Ruck.it does not diagnose injuries or clear anyone for exercise.
Gear decisions
Gear appears only after an explicit equipment or fit need. The first recommendation is an adjustment or “use what you own” option, followed by no more than three tradeoff-led options. Affiliate disclosure applies before any purchase CTA.
